CDC feathers come from the area around the preen gland of a duck and are saturated with a natural waterproofing “preen oil” that makes for excellent fly tying applications. Original CDC applications focused on dry flies, but more recent uses extend to nymphs, where the CDC feather traps air bubbles and perfectly imitates emerging nymphs and caddis pupae.
